How to Calculate Roof Pitch

By definition, the roof pitch is the vertical rise divided by the horizontal span.  So determining the pitch of a roof is as simple as finding out what the “rise” is in a 12″ span.

For example, 3″ of rise in 12″ inches of span would be a 3/12 pitch.

The area we give out is an tool estimation only. If the roof of your house has complex architexture or shape the most accurate way is to measure all the dimensions and add the areas of all surfaces. You can use our area calculator at Calculator.net to calculate the area of each surface.
